After a long debate, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has finally banned the use of DRS in the Eau Rouge corner, Circuit Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium on the F1 series, this coming weekend, on Monday (8/22/2011). The ban was issued to prevent accidents in high-speed corners.
Spa-Francorchamps circuit has some twists that can be traversed in a very high speed. In the Eau Rouge corner, speed racer without DRS can reach 180 miles per hour.
Earlier, some riders worried about the risks that arise if DRS is allowed to be used at the turn. The use of DRS is feasible when qualifying to reach the fastest time, in order to get the pole position.
Moreover, the failure prevention system in the car, which will close the DRS when applying the brakes, is not expected to function at Eau Rouge corner. Character of the natural topography around the corner it is a downgrade that will spur the car in high speed.
Ban the use of DRS has also been applied in the Monaco tunnel. Responding to the ban, Vitantonio Liuzzi Hispania Racing driver said, there is a difference between the Monaco tunnel and the Eau Rouge corner.
"In Monaco there is a roof that covered the tunnel so that the accident would be devastating. Meanwhile, in Eau Rouge is open space and crash there will be equal to an accident anywhere else. However, I will accept this ban as a challenge to race faced, "said Liuzzi.
