Duo Mercedes Team Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher, feel confident they can compete with Ferrari at the Spanish Grand Prix today, Sunday (22/5/11). But they admit, Red Bull Racing and McLaren too strong and difficult to overcome.
In fact, Mercedes is not too convincing in the qualifying session at the Catalunya Circuit, Saturday (21/5/11). Evidence, Rosberg is only in the order of seven and Schumacher in the top 10 after getting a problem on KERS. Nevertheless, the German rider pair remain confident they can thrust forward during the race.
"In Turkey I was in third position on the grid and here the seventh, so this is not ideal. However, moving one step backward, there is hope because we are slightly changing the approach and concentrate more on speed during the race," said Rosberg.
"For the race, we'll look better than in Turkey, because there (Turkey), I find it very difficult. Here, we as a whole trying to do a better job and look forward speed during the race are also better, although it would have no difficulty.
"In terms of tires, I feel better than Ferrari. I'm not too sure with McLaren."
About Red Bull, Schumacher said: "I think it is fair to say that the differences in record time in qualifying, will be very difficult to beat Red Bull.
"A car that is aerodynamic very tough, which Red Bull can show and prove on the type of tracks such as Barcelona. We own a team I can predict the top three or four, so it will fight with Ferrari, because I think the Red Bull driver and McLaren too strong for us.
"That, too, must be proven. Ferrari finally showed good performance, so it will be difficult for us against them."
